SWCA completed a thorough third-party review of City of Fort Collins' greenhouse gas inventory methodology, reporting, and mitigation planning. The City has set a goal of reducing its GHG emissions by 7% from its baseline year. This review included review of all City of Fort Collins GHG data, inventory methodology and results, and mitigation planning activities. It also included meeting with City staff and the climate action team to discuss existing program issues and develop a plan for future program upgrades and mitigation strategies. To add in the City’s program development, SWCA developed a detailed process map of all of the City's municipal and community GHG inventory activities. We also provided recommendations for potential GHG inventory and data tracking program improvements.
As a major part of this project, SWCA completed an Energy and Greenhouse Gas Management System for the City. This system was custom designed by SWCA to allow the City to enter and store all it's GHG and sustainability data in a centralized location and move to the City to a more efficient, more reliable, database-driven system for its GHG accounting and reporting. The reporting system provides for the calculation and tracking of GHG emissions mitigation and reductions over time, allowing the City to dig into its GHG emissions profile, and spend less time calculating its emissions and more time managing and reducing emissions.
